Move and feel better - SuperNils movement case

in cooperation with kiné AZ Delta

This project was developed by non-profit organisation SuperNils, with the help of the physiotherapists at AZ Delta in Roeselare.

The project was financially made possible by the Foundation Against Cancer and Levensloop Schoten 2023, for which many thanks!

Watch ATV's beautiful report on the right, about the launch of the movement case at the UZA on Friday 23 February 2024.

Suitable for all ages, as differentiated exercises are offered.

The movement case aims to improve the mental well-being of patients, but above all to get the sick back to moving. After all, exercise is very important in the healing process, but unfortunately not always possible. Patients cannot go to a sports club, they often stay in hospital, have fewer social contacts and therefore do not exercise enough. This is why the non-profit association SuperNils came up with this suitcase full of different materials to perform simple and feasible movements. Movements that are possible within the safe walls of the hospital room. Everything, both the materials and the exercises, were discussed with physiotherapists at the hospital, AZ Delta Roeselare. After all, we don't want to hand out wrong things, we're not going to put patients at risk!

Apart from the materials, you will also find sheets with text and photos explaining what you can do with the materials (compare it to the fit-o-meter). You will also find these sheets on this web page. For the kids, we even provide a video there, in which our mascot SuperNils does the moves for them. It will definitely not be a competition! You do the exercises when you feel like it and are physically able to do them. And if you have a bad day, you can leave everything in the suitcase. Everything is allowed, but nothing is compulsory. Always listen carefully to your own body and, of course, to the doctors and nurses.

The movements are good for the body, but they are also mentally supportive. You spend some time with your body and therefore do not think about the worries of every day. This mental calm is positive for the healing process.

EVALUATION: Children can use the star chart, to indicate which exercises they really like and which ones they like a bit less. That way we find out which exercises we might be better off replacing with something new. For the adults, there is an evaluation sheet that can be filled in. In this way, everyone helps to further develop and optimise the movement box. The star charts and evaluation sheets can be filled in on paper (see in the box) OR digitally (see on the website www.supernils.be).

Have fun with the motion box!

The exercise kits are currently being rolled out in our 6 partner hospitals (UZA, UZ Gent, UZ Leuven, AZ Delta Roeselare, AZ Jessa Hasselt and AZ Klina Brasschaat).

The material is very enthusiastically received by the nurses and physiotherapists. They will use it during rehabilitations, but certainly also to encourage patients to exercise more again. The project has great added value for the departments.
