We have a dream
a green dream ...
Vzw SuperNils does indeed have a dream, a big dream. One day we would like to plant a real SuperNils forest somewhere in Belgium, but preferably in our home municipality of Kalmthout. Partly in memory of our fantastic son and inspirer of SuperNils, but also to give nature back to Mother Earth. In this way, we are helping to green our globe, which can only benefit the people who live there.
Why should we green our globe? And what does the workings of SuperNils have to do with that?
The organisation aims to achieve its objectives and operation as sustainably as possible. That is why we are always looking for sustainable products to include in our packages. As little plastic as possible, but recycled materials. Where possible (hygiene), we also work with reusable materials. Every little helps to make our environment more liveable again.
Planting a forest or even several forests in Flanders also helps solve environmental problems. They help purify the air we breathe, they filter the water we drink and they provide habitat for animals. Trees prevent flooding and erosion and help fill the soil with nutrients needed for agriculture. In short, they provide a better and healthier living environment. So in this way, we also support those battling cancer or another serious disease.
Municipality of Kalmthout as a valuable partner!
Discussions have been held with the Municipality of Kalmthout. Kalmthout is a municipality where nature, heath and forest are hugely important. Every year they provide the necessary funds in the budget to plant trees, replace them or plant new forests (groves). They and vzw SuperNils therefore share the same objective. Together, we can create something beautiful. Some concrete ideas already came up and will be further developed in the near future.
The first step was taken on Wednesday 29 November 2023, with thanks to the Municipality (our Mayor Lucas Jacobs, Jan Oerlemans) and in particular the people of the Groendienst (with Johan Breugelmans leading the idea). A commemorative tree was planted at De Roerdomp for vzw SuperNils, near the birthplace of Nils, the inspirer of our organisation. It became a beautiful oak, a strong tree that can withstand the changes of our nature. The tree can become a beautiful place for family and friends, who knew Nils and want to remember him for a while. The planting took place in the presence of family, friends and neighbours, our Mayor Lukas Jacobs, Jan Oerlemans and, of course, the people from the Green Service. The photo report below allows you to enjoy this emotional moment, which was rounded off with a hot cup of coffee or tea.
The Municipality of Kalmthout certainly sees further cooperation with our organisation. For example, other commemorative trees could be planted in the municipality, but the planting of a SuperNils forest is also among the possible plans.
If it ever comes to it then (such ideas take time), interested parties will be able to purchase a tree for charity. Those trees will then be planted in the SuperNils forest, which will be open to the public and where children will be able to play nicely. For some, it will also become a memorial site, where the beautiful years with Nils, or other loved ones, can be thought of in peace. There can be a kind of "monument", where people can leave messages of hope and remembrance, readable by everyone. A forest with a VISION, in other words.
