SuperNils carries "sustainability" high on its agenda

Why do we need to live more sustainably?

There are several reasons:

  1. Climate change: One of the main reasons is the threat of climate change. Emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, from human activities contribute to global warming. This warming has serious consequences, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events and disruption of ecosystems. By living more sustainably, we can reduce emissions and contribute to mitigating climate change.

  2. Protecting ecosystems: By living more sustainably, we can help preserve natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Deforestation, overfishing, pollution and other unsustainable practices have a negative impact on our planet's flora and fauna. Sustainable living includes conserving natural resources, protecting fragile habitats and promoting a healthy ecosystem where different species can thrive.

  3. Resource scarcity: Many natural resources are finite and non-renewable. By living sustainably, we can use these resources more efficiently and prevent their depletion. For example, reducing our water consumption, recycling materials and promoting renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

  4. Health and well-being: Sustainable living also has direct benefits for our health and well-being. Promoting clean air and water, eating healthy food and avoiding harmful chemicals and toxins can all contribute to a healthier lifestyle. Moreover, enjoying nature and being outdoors can have a positive effect on our well-being.

  5. Social justice: Sustainability is not only about protecting the environment, but also about creating a more just society. Many unsustainable practices have negative social and economic impacts, especially on vulnerable communities. By living sustainably, we can strive for a more inclusive and fair society, where everyone has equal access to resources and opportunities.

In short, living more sustainably is essential to the planet at protect, the consequences of climate change limit, natural resources maintain, our health at improve and social justice promote. It requires a collective effort by individuals, communities, businesses and governments to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. (Source: © 2023 WEAR)

What can SuperNils do?

Vzw SuperNils wants to truly implement sustainability in its operations, to help achieve the above objectives.

We are pushing for the creation of a SuperNils forest. For non-profit organisation SuperNils, this has an emotional added value because it can become a place of remembrance. But it also helps curb climate change. After all, trees provide oxygen, purify the air, capture fine dust, purify water and provide a habitat for many animals. The eco-system will benefit. And a healthy eco-system and a healthy environment in turn make for healthier people, which we at SuperNils obviously want to strive for. Together with the Municipality of Kalmthout, we have already planted the first commemorative tree ... just in front of Nils' parental home.

Furthermore, we want to put together the interactive boxes as sustainably as possible. Let us choose materials that are sustainable, let us choose things made from recycled materials. For example, we recently worked with cases made from recycled materials for the motion project. These items are slightly more expensive, but we take that into account in our budgeting.

Through these two actions, we are already working on several items listed above. They make vzw SuperNils a "sustainable" organisation.
