Too late ...
Attentive and loyal readers/followers of vzw SuperNils have surely noticed.
May's newsletter has more just been published and June's is already upon us. That's not normal! Indeed, due to personal circumstances, the May 2024 newsletter had been put on hold for a while. But we have therefore made up for that with this one back. Sorry in any case to those who went looking in their mailbox all days in vain. It will (hopefully) not happen again!

New collaboration imminent?
ZNA Cadix, the brand new and super modern hospital in Antwerp, has contacted vzw SuperNils. They ask to come and present our operation and develop a possible cooperation.
Asbl SuperNils has adjusted its target group (children, adolescents and young adults up to 40 years with cancer) and wants to collaborate with the 6 reference hospitals for AYAs and the specialised children's cancer hospitals in Belgium for this purpose. ZNA Cadix is not on this list, but neither are Klina, Jessa and Delta. Nevertheless, we want to continue supporting these last three hospitals, as we already do. However, we will limit our target audience to children and AYAs up to 40 years old. And since ZNA Cadix is one of the biggest players in our country and is located in Antwerp (almost our home base), we definitely want to think about bringing them in as a possible eleventh partner.
11 partner hospitals seems more than enough for us to manage at the moment, from our small organisation. We also have to set budgetary limits. Unfortunately, therefore, we will no longer accept other, new applications.

Our podcast

Movement is coming back ...
No, our podcast story is not over yet! Thanks to Servier (Pharmaceutical company), a professional podcast will soon be recorded about non-profit organisation SuperNils and all the work we do. Recording in a professional studio with a real journalist! As soon as the podcast is ready, it will be allowed to be published on our website and everyone will be able to listen to it.
Servier will also launch the podcast on their website, allowing SuperNils to gain a little more exposure again. Servier is the company we wanted to use to organise talk groups for loved ones. A concept that does not currently meet with much interest, unfortunately. We do think about organising these discussion groups in a different way, possibly virtually and/or online. That way, the possible obstacle of location/distance can at least already disappear. We do continue to explore the concept together with Servier.

Project operation

VR project development on track!
The development of our VR project is going completely according to schedule and will be able to be tested during the summer months. This will be done at the UZA. Adjustments will then happen, from their feedback. After that, the project can be slowly rolled out to the other partner hospitals.
The VR project also forms the basis for several projects, which can be integrated into the VR event. Thus, in addition to watching films, visiting museums, a movement game and the possibility of contacting fellow sufferers, there will also be an information tool and a dance project. The necessary contacts for this have already been made and the project files have been finalised and submitted, to the Foundation Against Cancer (June - Life Grant and November - Social Grant). Once the approvals are in, development can begin (but the foundations have already been laid).
For the dance project, we are collaborating with MOSA-Balletschool, about which more information!

In the spotlight

Great collaboration with MOSA Ballet School Liege
We are currently working out a great project with the MOSA Ballet School from Liege. This is how we cross the language border with vzw SuperNils!
MOSA specialises in dancing for people with disabilities (illness, old age, disability). They even have a special project for that "Quand on danse". Now we are partnering with them to let patients with (haematological) cancer move/dance, from their hospital room/bed/seat. Films on our website will accompany patients during these dance sessions. Docents from MOSA will explain and narrate what can happen. Secondly, we will show these films through the VR environment, which will allow patients to actually be in the dance and even interact with other peers. And finally, lecturers from MOSA will move to the hospitals to engage with patients in all reality.
A beautiful and, above all, useful project. After all, it will really boost patients' mental well-being.
