Engaging Minds
"Turning Boredom into Brilliance"

Engage your mind and turn boredom into genius

NPO SuperNils battles boredom and loneliness

VRT is the ideal partner in this respect

SuperNils looks for all kinds of activities, which can help children and young people fight boredom and loneliness.

Studying, discovering new things, learning while playing are very good methods for this. Your mind is at work, but for a while it focuses on things other than day-to-day concerns.

VRT has developed fantastic learning packages for this purpose, which the educational service is only too happy to make available. In this interactive box, Vzw SuperNils provides the right links to this offer (offer is and remains the property of VRT), which is specifically aimed at young people in secondary education (but can also be interesting for those who are older!).

Below you will find different packages, with which you can easily get started individually. Click on the picture and find out what VRT's educational service has to offer.

You share a photo on Instagram, log on to a public Wi-Fi network, scroll a bit on TikTok or enter your address for delivery of an online purchase. Every day, you consciously and unconsciously share data. Is 'sharing' also effectively 'caring' or do we need to protect our data better? While personal data is increasingly being collected, we often do not sufficiently realise what data we leave behind and how it is used. Data is the new gold, a powerful commodity that companies and agencies are only too happy to collect and trade for profit. The EDUbox Data and Privacy responds to the need to be more aware of personal data. In this educational teaching package, secondary school students explore how data are collected, what is done with them and how they can find a better balance between sharing and privacy.
The democratic rule of law is one of the building blocks of our society. How our society functions and is structured, what rules and agreements we abide by is largely due to political decision-making. Thus, a better understanding of our political system in all its facets can also lead to a better understanding of our society. Governing a country, a state, a province, a city or municipality is not easy. How do you make sure everyone is represented and no one is left out? In Belgium, we do this through a specific form of government: democracy. But how does a democracy work? Who makes the decisions? And what rights do citizens have? The EDUbox Democracy informs young people about the basic principles of a democratic constitutional state, makes them think about different political choices and encourages them to actively engage in dialogue with each other. This EDUbox is a collaboration between VRT and the Flemish Parliament.
This EDUbox fits into the Elections '24 offer and is closely linked to the Ideology EDUbox and Persuasion EDUbox. The EDUbox Politics aims to give young people an insight into how decisions are made. How do you convince people of your ideas, how do you get them realised? What steps exist to get from an idea to a policy? By asking young people about what concerns them and what ideas they have for the future, EDUbox teaches them how these ideas can come about through politics. This EDUbox was co-created within the European project EDUmake, co-financed by the European Union.
This EDUbox fits into the Elections '24 offer and is closely linked to the EDUbox Politics and EDUbox Ideology. With the Persuasion EDUbox, pupils learn by doing how to be convinced, what techniques are used to do so and that this can be both positive and negative. They also create their own poster with slogan to convince others of their message. This EDUbox was partly created within the European EDUmake project, co-financed by the European Union.
Energy is everywhere: from the light you turn on in the morning, to the podcast you listen to before bed. And although we interact with energy on a daily basis, it remains a complex subject. After all, what is energy anyway? How is it generated? Why is it so expensive? And what impact does energy have on the environment and the climate? This EDUbox informs young people, from raising awareness about their own energy consumption to exploring green and economical technologies, and challenges them to think critically about their role in this global issue. We show that you can look at energy in different ways, offering guidance on how to make sustainable choices.
With the EDUbox fake news, young people step into the shoes of a 'news detective'. They get tips and background information to debunk fake news. What is fake news? Why is fake news and other forms of misleading information spread? And what is deep fake? ... Through concrete examples, interactive exercises, videos and discussion, students learn how to handle information critically and master fact-checking.
The advent of digital media has turned our love and sex lives upside down. While we used to send each other love letters and red roses, today we prefer to do sexting to show our feelings. But what exactly is sexting? Despite its growing popularity, it is hardly talked about. The EDUbox Sexting guides first-year secondary school students through the world of digital flirting, in a responsible way.
We all want to spend our lives in places where we feel good. Is that still possible, now that there is less and less open, undeveloped space in Flanders? Moreover, we are increasingly starting to feel the consequences of the poor spatial planning of the past decades. High time, then, to make new and better plans! The EDUbox Spatial Awareness introduces young people to the principles of sustainable use of space.
In the EDUbox 'Cybersecurity: digital protection as a good habit', young people find out how to protect themselves against cyber criminals. Necessary because hackers are lurking everywhere to steal their data or property. What tricks do they use? And how can young people increase their own digital security? In this EDUbox, they will learn all about their digital footprint.
Always, people have moved from one place to another. Even today, migration remains a hot topic that challenges us as a society. There are many different opinions, sometimes diametrically opposed but not always in line with the facts. This EDUbox is not about 'for or against' migration but explains the 'why and how'. The aim is for students to form their own opinions on migration, based on accurate and factual information.
In our country, those who are ill usually do not have to worry too much. Visiting a GP is easy and affordable. This is not the case everywhere in the world. Healthcare systems require a lot of money and energy and are different everywhere. How exactly does healthcare work? What are the crucial building blocks of a successful system? And how can countries strengthen each other in it? This EDUbox Health unfolds the topic tailored to secondary school students and makes young people aware of the different healthcare systems around the world.
In the EDUbox 'Health: science for a sustainable relationship between humans, animals and planet', youngsters find out what is going on with our planet. Because there is no doubt that something is going on: one natural disaster seemingly follows another. But what factors are triggering these major changes? And what impact are these phenomena having on the health of humans, animals and the planet? Man faces major challenges and invents solutions in which science and cooperation are crucial.
With the EDUbox 'Identity: being able to be who you are', VRT together with The Warmest Week wants to make this fascinating but sensitive topic discussable in the classroom. Pupils gain a step-by-step insight into the process of forming their identity. How is our self-image formed and what factors have an impact on the way we look at ourselves? Everyone goes through this process but it does not go smoothly for everyone. What if you find it hard to be yourself? And what is the impact of social media on our self-image? Identity formation is everyone's story and this EDUbox focuses on nuance and connection.
In the EDUbox 'Sustainability: making the future', we take a closer look at sustainable consumption and production. How can we improve the production process to reduce pressure on the environment and climate? And what can we as consumers do to contribute to a sustainable economy? This EDUbox is all about balancing People, Planet and Profit in the new circular economy.
On some issues, tensions run high. It then seems like you only have a camp 'for' and a camp 'against'. And yet any topic should be able to be discussed in class, including sensitive ones. With the EDUbox Us-Side-Thinking, pupils can practice dealing with differences of opinion.
Culture is more than the Mona Lisa and Shakespeare. Culture is also fashion, dance, music, games and even maths. But why is culture so important? And how can we increase our cultural awareness? The EDUbox Culture seeks to make young people aware of what culture is all about and thus broaden their view of the world.
Whether we are going to school or the sports club or visiting family or friends, we move around several times a day. Mobility therefore plays an important role in our lives. And yet Flanders has a lot of traffic problems. This EDUbox helps pupils make choices for a sustainable traffic solution.
Young people are wedded to social media. But why are they so popular? And what explains their appeal? With this EDUbox, students dive behind the scenes of social media.
Where is money in the world and how does our economic system work? With this EDUbox, students find out about the roles of different actors in the economy.
The EDUbox Money and me is about the importance of money in life. It makes students think and discuss among themselves about the value of money and other things in life.
