Important news items

The Warmest Week 2023
December is the month of Warmest Week. It started on Monday 18 December 2023 on MNM and Studio Brussel (channels VRT). You can organise actions, request a record or just send an SMS to 4342. The money collected will go into the Warmest Week 2023 fund. At the end of January 2024, the pennies will then be distributed to the chosen charities, of which SuperNils is one. Through DWW, we are expanding our exercise package to include a real Care Robot for the children. He will challenge them to move and thus work on both mental and physical well-being.

Our year-end promotion "Delicious wines"
We closed our wine campaign on Tuesday 19 December 2023 with a great result. We sold no less than 152 packages of delicious wine. That brings a net profit of about 1,200 euros! Money that can be invested in our projects and the general functioning of the organisation.
Big thanks to our buyers, but also a heartfelt thank you to Renée Bakx, the inspirer and organiser of this beautiful and well-tasted initiative.

Talking groups for loved ones
The chat groups for loved ones are a fact! On 14 March 2024, the first chat group will be organised in Antwerp - Lier, at Gloed, the cosy venue of Lost & Co vzw.
This initiative is a nice cooperation between Servier (pharmaceutical company) and vzw SuperNils. Lost & Co vzw provides professional guidance for the discussion groups and Marijke Quagebuer, nursing specialist in haematology at UZ Gent provides an interesting presentation. Of course, coffee will be provided, with a local delicacy. And in Lier, that is of course the Liers Vlaaike!
After this first meeting, there will be an evaluation with possible adjustments to the project. Afterwards, these talk sessions will be organised in all Flemish Provinces.

Our podcast

Leukaemia, SuperNils Boostfactory
Already recorded episodes can still be listened to via our website, Spotify and Apple Podcast. We are happy to hear that several people are doing this regularly.
New episodes are not coming for now, as we are extremely busy working out our projects for patients.
We will be adding podcasts in the future, including from other partners and organisations. Thus, we will continue to expand our offer with new topics and themes.

Project operation

Moving with SuperNils
The project is just about ready for launch. The materials have been purchased and the website has been supplemented with the necessary information sheets. Later, accompanying videos will be added, specifically for the children.
In spring 2024, we will deliver the first cases to the six partner hospitals and they can be put into use. After an evaluation in May and an adjustment in June, additional movement cases will be delivered to the partner hospitals.
This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of Foundation Against Cancer and Levensloop Schoten 2023. The photos on the information sheets were taken (and donated) by Niki da Costa Fotografie. For the occasion, Evi Dejongh crawled into SuperNils' mascot suit.

Engineering case SuperNils
Great collaboration with Fyxxilab Ghent. We provide suitcases with an extensive range of materials, with which children, young people and even adults can learn while playing. Learning programming, working with technology, building things with Lego or Knexx, ... there is something for everyone. And above all ... being busy takes the mind away from everyday worries for a while. This promotes mental well-being, which in turn has a positive influence on the healing process.
The case will be distributed in spring 2024 in our partner hospitals.

VR package - get away from reality for a while
Our VR package was approved by Foundation Against Cancer - social grants at the end of November. Just like that, we receive an amount of € 25 357.00! From Roche NV (pharmaceutical company) we receive an additional budget of € 4 000.00 for the realisation of this beautiful project.
So the elaboration can start. On Tuesday 19 December 2023, we organised an extra meeting of the Board of Directors to make final choices so that we can commission a professional company to start working on the elaboration of a SuperNils-VR environment. In any case, it promises to be a very professional package, which can be extended in the future to include AI technology and medical-support applications, among others. So be sure to keep following it all!

In the spotlight

Our ambassador
Asbl SuperNils has a new ambassador ... Peter Genyn, Olympic champion, world champion ... in short, a Golden Paralympian.
Peter lives in Kalmthout and is thus a fellow villager of Nils. Like Nils, he is a go-getter, a fighter. His attitude is a real example for many of our patients. Keep believing in it, keep going, never give up ... that's his moto.

Help requested

Creative with wool
Asbl SuperNils plans to expand its webshop in the future to include beautiful hats and homemade SuperNils hugs.
On 19 December 2023, we already had a first meeting with some volunteers who want to knit or crochet beautiful hats for our organisation. The material will be adapted to the needs of patients so that it can be washed at high temperatures. Furthermore, these ladies want to crochet/knit a nice SuperNils doll. The patterns for this have already been developed. As these are handmade dolls, each one will be unique.
Anyone who would also like to participate in this volunteer group may submit their name via our contact page so that we can make further arrangements. The group meets in Berendrecht - Antwerp.
