SuperNils' Newsletter

26 June 2023 ...

Last newsletter before the summer holidays. We are taking a break, until September. Then we'll be back with news and cool posts. For now, enjoy those beautiful, long summer days.

1° Levensloop Schoten: Already 15 participants registered at the moment. But still too few of course. After all, we have to bridge 24 hours with our team. There should always be someone from vzw SuperNils on the track, during this period, day and night. Of course, you don't have to walk or run for 24 hours!!! If 24 people perform 1 hour each, consecutively, then we are round :). Show your good heart and sign up for Levensloop Schoten - team vzw SuperNils. Participating costs just 10 euros. The money will be spent on scientific research and on projects, as submitted by SuperNils themselves (movement project). Event weekend: September 2 (from 3 pm) - September 3, 2023 (15 hours). Location: Park of Schoten, around the castle and ponds!

Want to sign up a group of people for team SuperNils? You can. You can then upload the details via an excel file. So you can sign up a team from your company/school/family for team SuperNils. Because TOGETHER we are much STRONGER!

Lifetime is there to celebrate, honour fighters who have cancer or have overcome the disease and remember those who sadly died of the disease. Vzw SuperNils will be thinking extra hard that weekend about Nils, the power behind our organisation.

2° Tax certificates: We have been informed via the accountant that there is a POSITIVE opinion for the issue of tax certificates, with retroactive effect from 1 January 2023. However, we are still waiting for an official letter from Brussels. Apparently, it has yet to go through the administrative signature mill. We are waiting for the official notice before updating everything on the website.

No further action taken at present.

3° Us movement project is APPROVED by Foundation Against Cancer, within the Levensloop Grants. All the more reason to participate with enough people in the Levensloop in Schoten on 2 and 3 September. After all, we can count on a support of over 5000 euros to further develop and roll out this project.

We will now assemble boxes with materials that patients can use to get started with simple movement exercises within their hospital rooms. Fiches will provide the necessary explanations. They will also always mention which alternative materials can be used, e.g. at home. Videos will be made for the youngest patients, in which our mascot demonstrates the movements. Nurses and doctors from the hospitals and physiotherapists will help us with the deeper elaboration.

4° The engineering box for younger patients (from 6 years to over 18) is coming too! By autumn 2023, we will put together boxes with various materials, which patients in hospitals can use to get started around technology and robotics. Fablab Fyxxi from Ghent will help us do this. Currently, a list of possible materials and exercises has already been compiled. Thanks to this technology box, patients can relax, clear their minds, but above all learn a lot in a playful and pleasant way. The materials will be updated regularly so that new challenges are always available. Moreover, the Fab Lab can also move to the hospital or the patient's home to work out certain activities together (e.g. 3D printing).

5° Film project state of play. There will be a follow-up meeting with Sam Asaert, the film producer, on 3 July to review all arrangements and follow-ups. Filming is already allowed at the following locations: AZ Klina Brasschaat, Arboretum Kalmthout, C-Mine Genk. Still under investigation are: Museum van Schone Kunsten Antwerpen, Antwerp Zoo and Kunstgalerij Sofie Van de Velde. The lead role will be played by Daan De Beer, a young man experienced in camera work. We are still looking for some extras (visitors, doctor, nurses). Anyone who feels called and can spare themselves on Saturday, September 9, between 8am and 2pm, may submit their name and age at robert.scheltjens@supernils.be. Thanks to AP College, we will have a real hospital bed at our disposal, which we may move to the different locations. For this, we are still looking for suitable transport (spacious van). Can you help us with that? Mail quickly to robert.scheltjens@supernils.be.

6° Currently, all ideas and projects (see above) are being further developed. Only then will new issues be launched.

7° Levensloop Schoten September 2-3, 2023Please register as many participants as possible: see above!

8° Help with the film: extras, van - see above please.
