Gin walk Nieuwmoer

On Sunday 19 January 2025, two young people from Nieuwmoer, Lennert Francken and Els Hugaerts, organised a beautiful walk through De Maatjes nature reserve. More than 100 people, young and a bit older, took part in the event, supporting the non-profit organisation SuperNils. There were three places to drink a jenevert (or chocolate milk and apple juice for vehicle drivers). It was an enjoyable gathering that raised no less than € 1 392.00 for our non-profit organisation. So a big thank you to Lennert and Els, but certainly also to everyone who came along for the walk. This is worth repeating!

NPO SuperNils becomes better known ...

NPO SuperNils is getting better and better known in its own region. People know who we are and what we do and they appreciate it enormously. This manifests itself in various, possible sponsorships. For instance, the Archers' Guild of Nieuwmoer wants to support us with € 1,000.00, for everything we do for patients and especially for those who are also less fortunate financially. And also AKC, Athletics Club Kalmthout wants to possibly commit to our charity. Furthermore, vzw SuperNils will man the hamburger stall during the Turfkoers in Nieuwmoer. The proceeds from that food stall will in turn be for our organisation. The pennies are of course all very welcome and will be spent usefully in our projects and materials boxes.

Our podcast

Sorry, nothing to report here for a while

But all our existing episodes can of course still be listened to via the website or Spotify. Search for the "Leukaemia, SuperNils Boostfactory" podcast and enjoy. Be sure to also listen to the episode of LEA, well worth a listen.

Project operation

VR project running at full speed

A lot has already been developed within the VR project (environment, game, films, peer contact, wisdom tower). Currently, the tower is being filled with information videos, which we receive from the hospitals. The concept is also already being tested at AZ Klina, ZAS Cadix and UZ Leuven. Soon, AZ Delta in Roeselare will be added. Through the feedback, the concept will be fine-tuned and improved. Furthermore, in 2025 we are going to shoot 360° films ourselves, which we will then be able to integrate.

Dance project with MOSA-Balletschool Liege

The Foundation Against Cancer-approved project with MOSA Ballet School from Liège started in January 2025. We will develop three phases:
- Recording of ballet classes for display on website. Patients can watch them on laptop or mobile phone and participate, directed by MOSA teachers.
- Recording of ballet classes for integration into VR glasses. Patients stand among the dancers and can participate again, guided by the teachers.
- instructors from MOSA will come to some hospitals in the second project year to dance and move to music with the patients.

Movement project 2.0

Vzw SuperNils submitted yet another application for a Levensloop Grant 2025. We chose our movement case again, because obviously the new hospitals are also asking for the material. Hopefully the application will be approved and we will also be able to provide ZAS Cadix, UZ Brussel, CHU de Liège, Saint-Luc and Jules Bordet with the beautiful materials in 2025.

SuperNils App

Dreams are allowed, but realising them is even more important! That is why non-profit organisation SuperNils is going to submit a Social Grant to the Foundation Against Cancer in 2025 to have an application developed, which will allow patients to compile a digital diary/friends' book, have a hatch to write down their important questions and an item where they can find information about non-profit organisation SuperNils' interactive suitcases. Fingers crossed that approval is forthcoming.

In the spotlight

Membership recruitment running at full speed

Our membership recruitment for 2025 is running at full speed. You've certainly noticed this already, through the many posts on facebook, LinkedIn and Whatsapp. But it is also paying off! Many people have already renewed their membership and a number of new members joined. Hopefully, we will grow into a non-profit organisation with more than 70 members. That would be great in the meantime.
You can help by bringing in 1 more new member each (family member, colleague, friend). Do your best 🙂

General membership meeting 2025

On Wednesday 19 March 2025, our general membership meeting will take place. This time in a beautiful location in Kalmthout: Het Strijboshof. Ample parking is provided. There you will learn all about our plans, the annual accounts and the new business plan. Naturally, we are hoping for a good turnout of our members. See you then!

Help requested

Wool remnants

Vzw SuperNils wants to knit woollen hats and scarves with volunteers, provided with a nice SuperNils logo. These will be sold during Levensloop Schoten in September, but also via our webshop.
We are therefore looking for leftover wool that you have lying around and might want to donate to us. If so, please feel free to drop us a line at robert.scheltjens@supernils.be.

Volunteers wanted

Can you knit beautifully and feel like supporting charity?
Do you have some free time you want to dedicate to non-profit organisation SuperNils?
If so, let us know at robert.scheltjens@supernils.be.
You can then help us knit cute winter hats and scarves.
