The democratic rule of law is one of the building blocks of our society. How our society functions and is structured, what rules and agreements we abide by is largely due to political decision-making. Thus, a better understanding of our political system in all its facets can also lead to a better understanding of our society. Governing a country, a state, a province, a city or municipality is not easy. How do you make sure everyone is represented and no one is left out? In Belgium, we do this through a specific form of government: democracy. But how does a democracy work? Who makes the decisions? And what rights do citizens have? The EDUbox Democracy informs young people about the basic principles of a democratic constitutional state, makes them think about different political choices and encourages them to actively engage in dialogue with each other. How do you convince people of your ideas, how do you get them realised? What steps exist to get from an idea to a policy? By asking young people about what concerns them and what ideas they have for the future, EDUbox teaches them how these ideas can come about through politics.
